4000 Light: A Novel Dining Experience

Designer Niandi Xu's Innovative Restaurant Design

The inspiration for 4000 Light came from the interplay of light and shade in space and the interaction between light and people. Niandi Xu carried out extensive research on the process of special shape, curve, and specular reflection, and spent time studying digital image projection technology. The result is a unique visual effect and a highly personalized interactive experience that offers clients a new spatial experience.

4000 Light is a fashionable hot pot restaurant catering to young people. The designer's choice of light as the core design element sets this project apart. By using different light sources and a large number of specular reflection materials, light reflection and refraction effects are created on the carefully designed surface shape. This, combined with the YINI IP image interaction technology, results in vivid visual changes and a novel space experience for clients.

The restaurant's design includes three visual focal points: the art hall, wormhole, and time channel. These elements, along with the restaurant's business indicators and ambient air index, contribute to the overall spatial characteristics of the project. The interior area for the project is 1000 square meters, accommodating 255 meals with a kitchen area comprising 14% of the space.

The project breaks the barrier of constructing space with building materials as the main body and introduces light and shade as the space construction elements. This approach breaks the boundary between human and space materials, allowing a person's behavior to affect the visual changes of the entire space and enabling users to experience the integration and interaction of the self and the surrounding environment.

The project design started in June 2018 and the decoration and construction began in August 2018, concluding in March 2019. The restaurant is located in the Taiguli Business District, Xiadong Avenue Section, Dongdajie, Jinjiang District, Chengdu. The project faced challenges in balancing and integrating light and shade technology with artistic effects, particularly in creating a strong and attractive interaction effect between the experiencer and the image in the "wormhole".

4000 Light Restaurant is a vegetarian restaurant that operates plateau ingredient and serves young fashionable people. The YINI IP interaction technology creates an impressive sense of spatial experience, so that users can feel the integration and interaction between themselves and the surrounding environment. This innovative design was awarded Golden in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, a testament to its outstanding and trendsetting creation that advances art, design, and technology.
